My last preparations - It's getting serious!

Hi there,

I just received some e-mails, if it's possible to write some english postings, too. (Mainly for my Food-Blog, but I will write some english travelling posts here, too)

I am almost finished with packing all my stuff in this giant backpack I got from a good friend. In less then 15 hours I'm on my way to Japan. We're very lucky and have a direct flight to Tokyo. So we don't have to get through the nasty flight changing stuff and our vacation starts already with leaving solid ground.
I am really looking forward to this little adventure. For four weeks, we're busy on traveling around Central Honshu and we have to cover about 20 different places. In 14 of them, we'll stay overnight. Mostly we booked a Ryokan, a japanese guesthouse. I just can't wait to sleep in futon beds in typical japanese rooms, sitting on my knees in front of our little table and get some good and healthy dinner or breakfast in our own room. The thought is very relaxing and calming to me. We tried and picked little Ryokan that are family run and where you are very close to the innkeeper. Not some big and anonymous hotel.
Japan is known for its many hot springs, onsen. I can already picture me in an outdoor onsen near Mt. Fuji or somewhere in a small town surrounded only by nature. All you have to do is to breathe and get rid of every burden you brought along. I hope you can't get addicted to relaxing in onsen!
We spend the main part of our first week in Tokyo. Therefore we'll have a little apartment with our own kitchen. This is perfect because we can prepare our own vegan meals and don't have to go hunting for something vegan in this gigantic city on our first day. Or our second, or third... I am pretty sure that we'll need some time to get used to Tokyo and it's never ending different shapes and possibilities. Not to mention the language - especially the written one. I have been learning Japanese for more than a year now, but I am not always the hardworking type of student and this language can't be learned in such a time. I think I know enough, to communicate the important things (like what I eat and what I definitly don't eat), but I am not quite sure if I would understand an answer. Well, we'll see!

As I already said in the german posting, I thought of this blog at first as an opportunitiy for family and friends to participate in our life and stay connected while we're so far away. So I don't have to write several hundred persons, all thirsty for more information and pictures (just kidding ;-) ) and have much more time for enjoying my trip and doing other stuff (like thinking how the hell I am supposed to get all my souvenirs back to Germany...).
But I am happy about every new reader, who found his or her way here to my little blog. :-)

I'll try very hard to give you lots of information and pictures about everything that happens to us. But I don't know at which point of our journey I'll have access to the internet. So it's possible that you don't hear a thing of me for some time. (And I guess I sometimes do have internet access, but I don't feel like posting something at all. So please go easy on me in those times.)

But for now, I need all the luck you can spare, for the pilots of our airline pronounced a huge strike for tomorrow. Although only short and middle distance flights are affected, the customer service wasn't very sure about a possible affection of long-distance flights, too. But I am pretty sure that everything is working out in our favor tomorrow. :-) In that case we'll hear us again when I am all safe and happy (and pretty much overwhelmed I guess) in Tokyo.

If you have any questions about - I don't know, anything? - please feel free to leave a comment or write me an email. I'll try and answer everything as far as I am connected to some wifi hotspot somewhere ;-)

So welcome to my little journey diary and enjoy reading it!

Take care!
Chiri
